Kei Nishikori is coming off a four sets win over Ernests Gulbis that took 43 games to decide. Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Karen Khachanov that took 26 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 78 percent of his first serve points and 58 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 72 percent of his total service points and converted on seven of his 14 break chances. Djokovic has now won 21 of his last 24 sets and seems to be getting more comfortable and confident by the match. Djokovic is coming off a match in which he had just 12 unforced errors, a number that makes him nearly impossible to beat. Djokovic hopes to make his first grand slam semifinal since the 2016 US Open. Djokovic has lost each of his last three grand slam quarterfinal matches. Djokovic has won won eight of his last nine matches on grass court.
These two have played 15 times and Djokovic has won 13 of those meetings. The last meeting was in this years Rome Masters, a match Djokovic won in three sets. Djokovic has won 13 straight meets against Nishikori, and his last loss was in the 2014 US Open. This will be the first ever meeting on grass court.
Nishikori had to work hard in his fourth round match, and well he’s well conditioned, it won’t be easy to come back from that match and be ready to complete with Djokovic. This is the best Djokovic has played in the last couple of years, and when he’s not making unforced errors, he’s almost impossible to beat.
